"The Inheritance" is a pretty thick concept album split into different episodes and very briefly, the WITHERSCAPE story takes place in a remote village in northern Sweden in the late 1800's. The central character lives in Stockholm and comes from wealth, and upon the death of his family he's informed by the family lawyer that he has inherited a large estate up north. Having been oblivious to the estate's existence, he decides to investigate, and once he's there "all kinds of weird shit happens...", according to Dan Swan�. WITHERSCAPE marks the long overdue return as active composer and recording artist for Dan Swan� in the world of extreme Metal, after having mostly been involved on the studio mixing end of things in these past years. Granted, "The Inheritance" is not purely a Death Metal release, but it smoothly showcases both the heavier and the mellow sides of Swan�'s creativity and should consequently not only please fans of his earlier efforts like "Moontower" or the Edge Of Sanity catalogue, but also attract friends of progressively atmospheric contemporary Metal in the vein of Opeth, Katatonia or Amorphis. According to Swan�, WITHERSCAPE has been in planning for a long time, spawned as a result of his working relationship with Widerberg, which began at a Swedish music store. The two multi-instrumentalists discovered that they had so much in common musically that brainstorming for a full-on metal project of their own was the next logical step. Widerberg quotes acts like early Judas Priest, Rush, King Crimson or Mercyful Fate as far as his inspirations in regards to WITHERSCAPE and Swan� elaborates his list to also include Judas Priest (1975-1989), Voivod, Queensryche, Rush, Marillion and Mercyful Fate. Turisas: : Check out the cover for their upcoming album "Turisas2013", new tour dates announced

Get ready for TURISAS to paint your town red and black again! On the day of their return to the renowned Download Festival in the UK the band is revealing first details of their upcoming album: "Turisas2013" is scheduled for a release August 21 in Finland, August 26 in Europe while UK will follow September 2 and North America September 3. Keep your eyes peeled for the exact dates though! Yet again the album was produced by vocalist Mathias Nyg�rd and the majority of the album recorded by Nyg�rd and guitarist Jussi Wickstr�m in a remote house outside of Helsinki that worked as the "Turisas2013" command centre and head quarter. Additional recordings were done in 3 other studios: the drums at Atomic Spa Studio and orchestral recordings at 5 by 5 Studio, both in Helsinki. A lot of vocals and numerous additional elements were tracked at Sound Supreme Studio in H�meenlinna where TURISAS also recorded "The Varangian Way" and "Stand Up And Fight". With "Turisas2013" the band deliberately aimed for a more organic sound, Mathias "Warlord" Nyg�rd further comments: "When it comes to the production it's just the opposite of the polished and massive 'Stand Up And Fight'. It's raw and dry and in your face, but still maintaining that TURISAS-largeness. People attest us that we are a great live band and we wanted the album to be based more around that than orchestral massiveness. It's our most varied record to date and even if some of the songs sound very different, I think the common thread is that every single one has a lot of energy to it." The mix and mastering was done in London at Orgone Studios with producer Jaime Gomez Arellano who previously worked with Ghost, Cathedral, Primodial and Ulver, just to name a few. Watain: : reveal "The Wild Hunt" album cover artwork and tracklist

Sweden's most notorious metal extremists, WATAIN, reveal the album cover artwork and tracklist of their fifth studio album. Executed in oil and mixed materials, the cover of "The Wild Hunt" was done by Zbigniew M Bielak, the very same artist who was responsible for the "Lawless Darkness" artwork. The piece depicts one of the inmost shrines of WATAIN's temple. As on every classic still life, each object has a significant meaning, while each song of the album is also connected to an object. As previously announced, PARADISE LOST will celebrate their 25th anniversary with a very special show at the Metal Hammer Golden Gods Awards that will be held on June 17 at London's esteemed Indigo2 venue (headlined by the other British legends Motorhead). PARADISE LOST invited their friends Cristina Scabbia (Lacuna Coil) who will sing "Say Just Words" in a duet with Nick Holmes and Gus G (Firewind, Ozzy Osbourne) who will join PARADISE LOST to pay tribute to the godfathers of metal, Black Sabbath, for an "Into the Void" cover version.
