As the old Japanese legend goes, in the year 19XX, in the farthest away land of Ladyland, there lived a genius biologist, and untouchable guitar shredder, named Dr. Jimi who, among a life devoted to riffs, completed a mad science experiment combining humans and wolves creating a pack of superior creatures that would be called MAN WITH A MISSION.
Their looks may be deceiving and even comical at first glance, but they have incredible brainpower and a superhuman physique. Such superb abilities enabled them to carry out the planet’s most challenging top-secret missions, and made them untouchable by the world’s fearsome and powerful leaders including Genghis Khan, Attila the Hun, and Ivan the Terrible.
Dr. Jimi was plagued by guilt and regrets that his creations had contributed to some of the most evil deeds in history and decided to put an end to it. He wanted to ensure that they wouldn't fall under the spell of evil again and so he froze them into eternal sleep in a far edge of the world.
Determined not to let his creativity potentially bring more evil into the world Dr. Jimi burned his guitar. He managed to escape the hands of evil and cheat death three times, but he couldn’t avoid his destiny. Retribution for his death was to keep MAN WITH A MISSION frozen under the glaciers in the South Pole.
Time passed by and it was now the year of 2010. The planet had gone through worldwide economic crisis, numerous political and social tensions across borders, and was slowly being destroyed by pollution induced global warming. The warming and deterioration of the planet then melted the icy caskets that Dr. Jimi had jeopardized his life for and MAN WITH A MISSION awoke from eternal sleep!
Birthed with a heads of wolves atop a super-human physique, the five beasts were to become the world’s most fearsome and powerful leaders using their otherworldly musical strengths to enlist a feral blend of rap, rock and electronics to create their world changing magnum opus, Chasing the Horizon.
Now awoken from their eternal slumber and making Tokyo their hometown, MAN WITH A MISSION (Tokyo Tanaka – Vocals, Jean-Ken Johnny – vocals, rap & guitar, Kamikaze Boy – bass, DJ Santa Monica
– DJ/samples, Spear Rib – drums) have come to unleash an album for the very first time across the entire globe: Chasing the Horizon.
MAN WITH A MISSION have become a complete phenomenon in Japan, and are one of the most important and loved rock bands in Asia. Chasing the Horizon is the wolf-collective’s fifth album in their homeland, but the first to be released worldwide.
Since emerging from the depths and releasing their self-titled debut in 2011, they have released MASH UP THE WORLD (2012), Tales of Purefly (2014) and The World’s On Fire (2016). Each record has been certified gold in Japan and the band have completed numerous sold out arena tours across the country.
By 2013 they were filling first (10.000+) arenas in their native Japan, which culminated in a New Years extravaganza in front of 30.000 people. By the time they released their third album Tales of Purefly, the band were selling out even more arenas and the record went to No.3 in the album charts.
The wolves kicked off 2015 with the release of the ‘Seven Deadly Sins’ single, which went straight to No.1 in the Japanese iTunes Rock Chart and No.2 in the main chart. In the same year the band collaborated with the US rap punks Zebrahead on ‘Out of Control’ and the song was selected to close the Japanese Mad Max – Fury Road. MWAM then went on to complete European tours with Rise Against and their Zebrahead friends. Their following fourth album The World’s On Fire stayed in the Japanese album chart Top 10 for four weeks and saw the band sell out even more arenas.
MAN WITH A MISSION continued their legacy to take over the world with their debut international single release ‘Dead End in Tokyo’ (produced by Fall Out Boy’s Patrick Stump) in 2017. The release led them to sell out their first shows in Europe and the UK, before touring the US with Jimmy Eat World and Stone Sour.
The new album Chasing the Horizon brings to life both legendary tales of past, like the single ‘My Hero’, which tells of other humans gifted with MAN WITH A MISSION’s powers to do good on earth. Meanwhile the band also provides a cautionary warning from their undisputed premonitions of the future with latest single ‘2045’, a tale of the anarchy and rise of AI, which is set to rule us all.
As the modern world has developed around them, MAN WITH A MISSION’s legendary powers have infected Japan’s Super Rugby team Sunwolves and the band now bless them luck and strength before matches with the official theme song and digital single ‘Freak It! feat. TOKYO SKA PARADISE ORCHESTRA’.
These album singles alongside further tracks taken from the record including, ‘Take Me Under’, ‘Winding Road’, ‘Dead End in Tokyo’, ‘Find You’ and ‘Dog Days’, have gone on to clock up multimillion streams across YouTube and Spotify. The international physical 'World Edition' also features exclusive special bonus tracks including 'Mr. Bad Mouth', 'The Anthem' and 'Brave It Out'.
Hollowed UK rock magazines have already hailed praise at Chasing the Horizon. Kerrang have said, “This is a band that plays with narrative and visuals and genre-defying mash-ups to make one electrifying and hugely-entertaining whole… MAN WITH A MISSION blend their varied elements into a seamless, free-flowing whole that twists and bites with abandon. They’ve got big hooks, bigger grooves, and they’re all the better to rock you with.” Meanwhile Rock Sound says its, “Wildly idiosyncratic and fizzing with ideas… something like eccentric genius.”
The wolf collective returned to the UK in 2018 and played their latest sold out headline London show to an ecstatic crowd at The Dome, and also toured the UK with Don Broco. MAN WITH A MISSION will be performing at Reading & Leeds Festival this summer before an exclusive UK headline show at The Cathouse, Glasgow on August 23rd.
MAN WITH A MISSION’s huge rock anthems and superhuman powers have already seen them take over Asia, and now with the release of Chasing the Horizon they have their beady eyes set to take on the rest of the world.
